It turns out remapping Caps Lock to Esc is apparently not the thing people do anymore. It’s Control again. As always; ignoring trends for long enough will make them go away.
So, I’ll also try remapping Caps Lock to Control, but actually using it this time. Since Control + [ can be used as Escape, that’d result in having Caps Lock as Control, and Caps Lock + [ as Escape.
In that case, maybe Control+[ works for you. Have been trying it for a bit, and it’s quite intuitive.

To expand on that; turning off retweets for everyone worked for me. Since there’s no proper way to do that in one go, adding “RT @“ as a muted word works.
So, what do the both of you use as the Escape key, then? That’s about as much of a reach.
Good one. Do you use it like that?
I didn’t actually use Caps Lock as Control before (just remapped it so it wouldn’t lock caps), so I’m using the bottom leftmost key as Control, which is, admittedly, quite a stretch.
Now, when I say I remapped Caps Lock to Control, I don’t mean I used it as such. I mean I remapped it to not be Caps Lock so Vim wouldn’t go crazy when I accidentally hit it.
That, and I keep pressing the Caps Lock key (remapped to Esc now) instead of Tab, which is new. 🤷♀️
Remapped the Caps Lock key on my keyboard to Escape instead of Control, because that’s apparently what you should do. Had to remove the Esc keycap to actually use it. Still pressing the uncapped Escape key, before realising it’s on the home row now.
confession: although I’ve helped perpetuate the meme, I’ve never actually programmed without pants on. I have programmed in pants I wouldn’t wear outside, but I don’t think that counts. 👖
Is there a reliable way to run Elixir master on Travis? The last time I checked kiex ran into Github’s rate limit while fetching versions. Is downloading it manually still the only way? #myelixirstatus
Thanks @Gargron, for reminding me TesseracT (the band, not not cube analogue) exists. 🎩👌 First came across them them back in 2014, at a show with Protest The Hero, The Safety Fire and Intervals (all recommended).
Followed! I’m aiming for 24, with at least some non-programming non-fiction. Good luck!
Please don’t take phone calls on trains. Instead, playing 30 Seconds with others is allowed. Even encouraged.
Ah, great. Seems like there’s no way to buy a Pure anymore, indeed. Love the layout on the Saber. Is the configuration exportable, or is it only configurable through the dipswitches or typing remaps on the board?
I suddenly remember why I didn’t get a POK3R back when I bought the Pure. The POK3R doesn’t have a ~ on the first layer, and the Pure remaps right ⇧/⌘/⌥/⌃ to the arrow keys using fn+space.
(How) do you use the arrow keys?
Good point. We’ve had @tombruijn use his ErgoDox in the office for about a year now, and I’ll be sure to get brown switches. But I’ll ask for agreement in writing before going through with this anyway. Promise!
So, any keyboard recommendations? :)
I’ll have some research to do, but the ErgoDox EZ is the most popular among respondents. Mentioned so far:
Nice! What are those two smaller ErgoDox-style ones in the photo?
Not a bad idea, at all. I’d buy a split, matrix 60% keyboard, if I could find any.
Very refreshing to learn that you prefer the POK3R. I remember you saying you didn’t like the configurability of that one. Anything you’d like to change but can’t?
Ah, these are the Happy Hacking switches! Will put both the FC660C and the HHKB2 on my list. Thanks! :)
It’d be great if you could give me a quick rundown sometime. It’s on the list to consider, so it’d be great to try one before I make a decision. :)
that one looks great, thanks! Not sure what I think about the 75% layout, though, now I’m used to not having dedicated F-keys. I’ll put the POK3R on my list, though. :)
